Yun lang, byebye. =) FC ako, SORRY po ulet. :)))) System 4 Management Rensis Likert, incorporating the basic style categories of task orientation and employee orientation, devised his own model of management effectiveness. Four Leadership Systems System 1 characterized as exploitive and authoritative Managers make all work-related decisions and order their subordinates to carry them out. Failure to meet the managers goals results in threats or punishments. Managers have little trust or confidence in subordinates. Subordinates fear the managers. System 2 benevolent authoritative Subordinates who meet or exceed the managers goals may be rewarded. Managers have a condescending attitude toward their subordinates and subordinates are cautious when dealing with their managers. System 3 consultative Managers set goals and issue general orders after discussing them with subordinates. Subordinates can make their own decisions about how to carry out their ttasks. Rewards are used to motivate subordinates. Subordinates feel free to discuss most work-related matters with their managers, who, in turn, feel that to a large extent subordinates can be trusted to carry out their tasks properly. System 4 participative Likerts final and most favored management style Goals are set and work-related decisions are made by group. To motivate subordinates, managers not only use economic rewards but also try to give their subordinates feelings of worth and importance Performance standards exist to permit self-appraisal by subordinates, rather than to provide managers with a tool to control subordinates. Interaction between managers and subordinates is frank, friendly, and trusting. Low productivity ââ â Systems 1 and 2 styles High productivity ââ â Consultative or Participative leadership style System 4 management ââ â desirable management in a wide variety of work situations High in consideration Lowest turnover rates Highest employee satisfaction Low in consideration High in initiating structture High grievance and turnover rates

The effects of a binding minimum wage
The effects of a binding minimum wage Introduction A binding minimum wage leads to numerous detrimental effects in a competitive labour market. This essay will highlight what these effects are, and what the outcome of these effects will bring to the labour market. A labour market is defined by Parkin as a market where employers are on the demand side and workers are on the supply side. Firms decide how much labour to demand, and the lower the wage rate, the greater is the quantity demanded (Parkin, et al., 2008). It is said to be competitive when there is a surplus of workers that are seeking a job, with few employers willing to hire. A minimum wage is a price floor implemented by the government, which ensures that an employer must pay a minimum rate of pay to an employee, and anything lower than this rate of pay is illegal. A minimum wage is binding if it is set above the equilibrium wage (Parkin, et al., 2008). With a binding minimum, wage adjustments are blocked and the market is prevented from allocating labour resources (Parkin, et al., 2008). The Effects 2.1 The Labour Market due to the minimum wage In the labour market, there is said to be an equilibrium wage. This is where the demand and supply lines on the minimum wage graph intersect, as it is the point that the rate of pay is equivalent to that of the quantity of hours worked/required. A binding minimum wage in a competitive labour market means that this equilibrium point is offset as the rate of pay must rises. This can be shown using the following graph (Parkin, et al., 2008). With relation to part (a) of the Parkins graph previously, it is evident that the wage rate of à ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬5 on the Y axis is the equilibrium price, and 21 million hours per week is the equilibrium quantity on the X axis. The minimum wage is below the equilibrium wage rate and is not binding (Parkin, et al., 2008). Where the rate of pay has increased, and all employees are being paid a higher wage, the hiring company cannot afford to hire as many employees as it will be too expensive, because not only do they have to pay wages for the skilled jobs, they also have to pay a higher wage than they would have intended for workers to perform the lower skilled jobs. Therefore this means that there will be workers on the supply side who will not be able to get a job, thus the unemployment rate will rise. This can be shown in part (b) of the graph (Parkin, et al., 2008). With relation to part (b), it can be seen that the minimum wage is à ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬6 an hour, which is above the equilibrium wage. The equilibrium wage is now illegal. At a minimum wage of à ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬6 an hour, 20 million of hours of labour are demanded and 22 million hours are supplied (Parkin, et al., 2008). This difference that has been created due to the binding minimum wage creates a surplus of 2 million hours of work per week in the graph, which means that the unemployment rate now rises. This new minimum wage also means that unemployed workers are willing to supply the 20 millionth hour for à ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬4 (Parkin, et al., 2008). 2.2 Inefficiency of the Labour market due to the minimum wage The minimum wage is not efficient, as Parkin states it results in unemployment wasted labour resources and an inefficient amount of job search (Parkin, et al., 2008). When looking at a minimum wage graph, a deadweight loss is present. This occurs because of a decrease in both the workers surplus and the companys surplus. This is seen in the following graph (Parkin, et al., 2008). Also seen in this inefficiency graph is a potential loss from job search. This loss is said to arise because someone who finds a job earns à ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬6 an hour but would have been willing to work for à ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬4 (Parkin, et al., 2008). This inefficiency affects the labour market as it means there is a deadweight loss of 1 million hours of work per year. 3.0 What might soften my interpretation? The use of a minimum wage brings numerous detrimental effects to people. When looking at the outcomes of a minimum wage, it delivers an unfair result and imposes unfair rules (Parkin, et al., 2008). Parkin also states that this is unfair because only those who can find a job benefit, whereas the unemployed end up worse off than with no minimum wage (Parkin, et al., 2008).

Comparing Death in D.H. Lawrenceââ¬â¢s The Horse Dealerââ¬â¢s Daughter and Kath
Comparing Death in D.H. Lawrenceââ¬â¢s The Horse Dealerââ¬â¢s Daughter and Katherine Mansfieldââ¬â¢s The Garden Party Controlling the movements of the short stories, death is a regnant theme in D.H. Lawrenceââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Horse Dealerââ¬â¢s Daughterâ⬠and Katherine Mansfieldââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Garden Party.â⬠Death brings forth consciousness and it excites the need for an epiphany within the protagonists. To a lesser extent, death creates tremors in the worlds of the antagonists. Death furthermore makes the indifferences of the secondary characters more pronounced. Affecting the lives of the protagonists, the antagonists, and the secondary characters of these two short stories, death plays an integral role in the themes of these works. Lawrenceââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Horse Dealerââ¬â¢s Daughterâ⬠was originally called ââ¬Å"The Miracle,â⬠marking the protagonistââ¬â¢s rebirth of love out of death. Mabel, the twenty-seven year old spinster, is revived physically and spiritually after her submergence in the ââ¬Å"dead cold pondâ⬠(2337). For a decade, Mabel played housekeeper for her ââ¬Å"ineffectual brothersâ⬠and although she was not happy, the ââ¬Å"sense of moneyâ⬠¦kept her proud, confidentâ⬠(2334). After the death of Mabelââ¬â¢s father, the familyââ¬â¢s horse-dealing business collapses and Mabel becomes ââ¬Å"mindless and persistent, [enduring] from day to dayâ⬠(2335). Distant from her brothers and receiving no visitors other than dealers and ââ¬Å"coarse menâ⬠(2334), Mabel concludes that her life is like a barren field. Even though Mabel reassures herself that she ââ¬Å"would always hold the keys of her own situationâ⬠(2335), she has a lready died a spiritual death ââ¬â a death that is mirrored by the imageries of the desolate house and the ââ¬Å"sloping, dank, winter-dark fieldsâ⬠(2334). Mabel does not have any hopes for ... ... resonates throughout both short stories and it spurs the growths of the protagonists and antagonists, characters who reach new heights of understanding about themselves and others. These characters are also able to resolve the peace with death, the purgative process that transforms them. The secondary characters in these two stories are unfazed by death, thus uncovering their insensitivity towards the loss of others. Albeit tragic in many ways, ââ¬Å"The Horse Dealerââ¬â¢s Daughterâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Garden Partyâ⬠reveal glimmers of hope and humanity in the shadow of death. The Influence of Shakespeare :: essays research papers
Across the universe of time: Shakespeareââ¬â¢s influence on 21st century society. It is harder to imagine a more universal writer than William Shakespeare. Rarely if ever is one of his many plays not being performed somewhere in the world and similarly rare is the tertiary English student who has not examined his work at length. His plays, sonnets and poems are common fodder for high school English departments across the globe. Shakespeare has perhaps contributed the most to the English language of any writer known to man ââ¬â literally. Over 1000 words and phrases that he coined as part of his plays and prose are now in common use across the globe. He changed nouns into verbs, verbs into adjectives, added on previously unheard-of prefixes and suffixes and in some cases made words out of nothing. Even culturally sensitive words such as ââ¬Ëodeââ¬â¢ (The ANZACS) and scientific jargon (ââ¬Ëepilepticââ¬â¢) are in fact products of Shakespeare. Bernard Levin probably summed this up best when he wrote: ââ¬Å"If you cannot understand my argument, and declare "It's Greek to me", you are quoting Shakespeare; if you claim to be more sinned against than sinning, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you recall your salad days, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you act more in sorrow than in anger, if your wish is father to the thought, if your lost property has vanished into thin air, you are quotin g Shakespeare; if you have ever refused to budge an inch or suffered from green-eyed jealousy, if you have played fast and loose, if you have been tongue-tied, a tower of strength, hoodwinked or in a pickleâ⬠¦ had short shrift, cold comfort or too much of a good thing, â⬠¦ - why, be that as it may, the more fool you, for it is a foregone conclusion that you are (as good luck would have it) quoting Shakespeare;â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Bernard Levin. From The Story of English. Robert McCrum, William Cran and Robert MacNeil. Viking: 1986). Shakespeareââ¬â¢s influence continues even in the world of film, not invented until several hundreds of years after his death in 1616. As well as the inevitable BBC remakes of most of his plays, newer adaptation such as Kenneth Branaghââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËMuch Ado About Nothingââ¬â¢ (starring Keanu Reeves and Denzel Washington) and Baz Luhrmannââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËRomeo and Julietââ¬â¢ (featuring Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio) have met critical acclaim and can be credited with bringing Shakespeare to a new generation not inclined to visiting theatres.

Do The Right Thing Essay -- essays research papers
ââ¬Å"DO THE RIGHT THINGâ⬠à à à à à Spike Leeââ¬â¢s movie Do the Right Thing is an excellent portrayal of what life was and is most certainly like in some areas of New York City and across the United States of America. à à à à à His movie tells the story of Mookie an African American pizza deliveryman, trying to make a living to support his son and girlfriend. He works for Sal and his two sons Vito and Pino who hold completely opposite attitudes when it comes to race. Then there is Radio Raheem who organizes a boycott at Salââ¬â¢s pizza parlor because of the lack of racial diversity on their wall of fame. à à à à à As the movie begins you become well aware of the fact that the people who live in this area are extremely vocal about their opinions and attitudes towards people who are not of their race or social background. You hear words thrown around which insinuate the projection towards each other. In the movie setting the scorching temperatures were symbolic of the heat and passion rising out the hearts of each person being portrayed in this film. The social-psychological theory is quite astounding in this film. Each race shows frustration and aggression towards the other groups. Such as when Radio Raheem came into Salââ¬â¢s pizzeria he was rudely asked to turn off his radio. He strikes back at Sal with a similar attitude towards the situation, which in my mind was more then appropriate. à à à à à If he is com...
Rhetorical Analysis of Thomas Jeffersonââ¬â¢s Inaugural Address Essay
Ethos ââ¬â ââ¬Å"Utterly, indeed, should I despair did not the presence of many whom I here see remind me that in the other high authorities provided by our Constitution I shall find resources of wisdom, of virtue, and of zeal on which to rely under all difficulties.â⬠In this section Jefferson names the first official document of America and states that it has provide and will provide the U.S. with everything it needs to be successful. Jefferson mentions his trust that he puts in the document and all that wrote it. Jefferson shows the citizens that because he and others made the document, they should be trusted, because the Constitution made America free from British rule. The Constitution unifies the U.S. also, it only states what need be, not things like divisions of political parties and what not. Diction ââ¬â Jeffersonââ¬â¢s constant use of words like us and we helps bring the U.S. together as a country regardless of whether you are federalist or democratic republican. It eases the tension between both parties. Pathos ââ¬â ââ¬Å"Called upon to undertake the duties of the first executive office of our country, I avail myself of the presence of that portion of my fellow-citizens which is here assembled to express my grateful thanks for the favor with which they have been pleased to look toward me, to declare a sincere consciousness that the task is above my talents, and that I approach it with those anxious and awful presentiments which the greatness of the charge and the weakness of my powers so justly inspire.â⬠Jefferson begins his address by telling us he is thankful for being elected President and he states that he is humble by saying that he will provide the nation with the best care possible, no matter the cost. This statement hardens the peopleââ¬â¢s belief that they have chosen the right person for the job. He says he is grateful and humbled by the offer, there for appealing to our patriotism and admiration for who he is. Tone ââ¬â Jeffersonââ¬â¢s tone throughout the address is both humble and asserting. He states that he is both grateful and humbled by the offer of a Presidency. He also asserts his opinions and notions of unity and the countryââ¬â¢s strength, invigorating the audience. Audience ââ¬â The majority of the audience does prefer one side or the other regarding political parties. This speech is intended to reach out to everyone, including children. I think some might say that he is favoring Republicans, which may affect the tone of the speech for them. Everyone, however, is united as a nation by the address regardless of their political views.

Christmas Carol Text Repsonse Essay
ââ¬Å"In A Christmas Carol, Dickens delivers strong criticisms of the society in which he lives. Discussâ⬠A Christmas Carol written by one of the most influential social reform novelists of the nineteenth century, Charles Dickens, delivers very harsh criticisms of Victorian London. Dickens presents these criticisms through the behaviour of the novellaââ¬â¢s protagonist, Ebenezer Scrooge. His character displays everything that Dickens perceives as being wrong in Victorian society. His treatment of the poor and destitute, the treatment of his employee Bob Crachit and the weak relationships he keeps with family are all indirect criticisms by the renowned author, Dickens. The poor in Victorian London were left in very poor living conditions, and were essentially ignored by the upper class. There was a huge segregation between the lower class and upper class. Dickens implies that those with excessive wealth and power had a responsibility to take care of those less fortunate than themselves. This idea is explored between the relationship of Scrooge and his clerk, Bob Crachit. Scrooge is completely ignorant of his responsibilities and duties to Crachit. When asked what donations Scrooge would like to give to the poor, he simply states ââ¬Å"Nothing!â⬠. This shows that Scrooge (and the upper class society) simply have no compassion or consideration for the poor living below them. The children ignorance and want are an addition by dickens to send a simple message, to help out those in want, and beware of ignorance in oneself and others. The main protagonist of the story, Ebenezer Scrooge embodies the worst qualities of Victorian society. Obsessed with accumulating wealth and with no concern for his beleaguered employee, Scrooge is an allegorical representation of the forces of capitalism driving the industrial economy at the time. The treatment of loved ones and relationships are key in A Christmas Carol. The main relationship emphasized by Dickens is the relationship between Scrooge and his nephew, Fred. Scrooge does not even slightly value hisà relationship with Fred. He refuses any affection or invitations given by Fred, shows no interest in Fredââ¬â¢s life and does not show any remorse towards these actions. This is also a criticism by Dickens. He is implying that the excessive and overbearing need for wealth and power ruin the relationships shared between people. In Scrooge, this is not only shown through his lack of a relationship with Fred, but also with his relationship with Belle, and ultimately its downfall. The festive and face value of A Christmas Carol provides an entertaining and light-hearted story for readers. However, beneath this heart-warming transformation of a character there are strong criticisms of Victorian society delivered by Dickens. He criticizes the way that the poor are left to fend for themselves in terrible conditions, the way the poor are treated by the upper class tear of society, and through the use of weak value placed relationships with family and friends during the time. Dickens novella was intended to point out the flaws in the society in which he lived and make itââ¬â¢s readers aware and cautious of these near fatal traits.
